Willard Durham, we called him Durham, like all of us he was so young. I can still see that smile, he seemed always to be smiling and laughing, a real happy young man. We had our friendship for only a few months but now for over 32 years I can still see his youthful face. As I look into the mirror at this old man, I wonder how he would have faired in old age, well, I'm sure. I can remember the day he was killed. He was walking point, through a peacefully looking village, I had told him to be careful and look out! I was way back in the single file line of Marines as Durham led us through the narrow sandy walkway that entered the village gate. THEN! AUTOMATIC WEAPONS FIRE!!! I felt and sing and crack of rounds passing ever so close to me. I saw the line of Marines drop and scatter to each side of the trail, the battle lasted only a few minutes and after it was finished Durham and several other men lie dead.
Durham will always be in my thoughts until my time comes to go. He did not die in vain, "There is a time for war..." And "There is a time to die..." His war and death were untimely, my war is over in many ways but death has been stayed for a season!!

ANTHONY ALBERT DISCEPOLO
Born on 29 October 1948 in Connecticut,

Tony served in 1st Platoon, Golf Company,
Third Regiment, Third Mar Div.
On May 24, 1968**, at the age of 19,
Tony was killed in an ambush taking a knoll in the hills overlooking Khe Sanh.
I will always remember his great smile. He is missed by family and friends.
You can find Tony (family nickname was "Butchie")

**The date of death is, I believe, incorrect.
He died BEFORE April 23, 1968. Can anyone confirm?
Gerry was a close friend and mate. We served together from basic “A” school until he rotated back to the world on a compassionate leave. After we were separated from active duty we worked together for a couple of years in Boston. Gerry married in 1967 and joined the Boston Fire Department where he achieved the rank of Deputy Chief. Harry, you may remember that Doc Molito was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V for aiding a wounded engineer during an ambush somewhere near DaNang. I recall that you were with weapons platoon though I could be wrong. Mr. Stoltz was Gerry’s platoon commander. I was second platoon corpsman (Felix Moring platoon commander). Best wishes Harry, it’s great to find these sites dedicated to FMF corpsman.
